The Council Chamber of the Court of Brussels has dropped the charges in the case of the death of teenager Soulaïmane Jamili Archich, the 15-year-old who died at a metro station on February 24th, 2014. The information was announced in the headlines of Sudpresse, La Dernière Heure and La Libre Belgique media. The teenager was hit by a train at Osseghem station.
Soulaïmane Jamili was at the station with two of her friends, one male, one female, on February 21st, 2014. When one of the group’s bags fell onto the tracks and the group tried to retrieve it, they were questioned by STIB security staff. Soulaïmane did not have valid ID on her and so the railway police were called in.
The other girl was found to be in possession of a knife and was taken to the police station. Soulaïmane et her friend were questioned at the metro station then allowed to leave. Soulaïmane was the last to be questioned and released and allegedly ran towards the tracks just as a metro was pulling into the station. An investigation was opened for accidental death as a result of a tragic lack of caution manslaughter and for failure to assist a person in danger, but the Council Chamber decided to drop the charges.
The victim’s family has already announced they would appeal the decision and denounced the fact that they were not given access to CCTV from the metro station, images which would have explained exactly what happened that day.
