Terrorist threat – 28 servicemen arrive in Charleroi on Monday

Twenty-eight soldiers arrived in Charleroi on Monday morning to patrol and improve security in shopping malls, metro lines and the pedestrian zone. Charleroi petitioned the Home Secretary for this type of support a few days ago.

The presence of soldiers is meant as a deterrent, explained the city authorities in a press release. Local authorities had already requested military support for the Courthouse following last January’s attacks at Charlie Hebdo headquarters in particular. The Home Secretary had not obliged them at the time. The only Walloon city to benefit from military support at the time was Liège.
