Fewer than 100,000 early retirement beneficiaries

The number of people receiving unemployment benefits with additional income (RCC), under a system commonly called early retirement, has fallen below the 100,000 threshold for the first time in 30 years. The average number of pre-pensioners not looking for work but getting RCC was 96,825 in October, reveals the dailies L’Echo and De Tijd on Wednesday, following the publication of new figures by the National Employment Office. The symbolic milestone was last reached in 1985.

There were still 121,533 pre-pensioners in February 2011. The figures decreased by approximately 5.3% since 2014, which is mostly the result of the tightening of rules for early retirement by the federal government.
