Belgium helps Christians flee Syria

In secrecy Belgium has assisted to get 37 Christian Syrians from the Al-Hasakah region to Belgian territory, indicates De Morgen. The cabinet secretary of the Asylum and Migration office, Theo Francken (N-VA), has confirmed the information.

A similar operation was carried out in summer which allowed 244 Christians from Aleppo to come to Belgium.

The Christian refugees were aided by local religious organisations who helped them flee via Damascus to Lebanon. Once they arrived in Lebanon they were screened by Belgian authorities and were given visas by the Embassy. They could then continue the journey to Belgium at their own expense and submit a request for asylum.
