The various Belgian youth movements will offer 352 places for asylum seekers. These places will remain open for a maximum of a week and will, in particular, make it possible for the state to avoid fines in instances of refugee applicants not receiving a housing place, reports De Tijd on Wednesday on its website.
State secretary for asylum and migration, Theo Francken (N-VA), will offer 3,547 places for asylum seekers. These new places are part of the agreement made on Tuesday by the federal government. The total number of places is bordering on 40,000 in Belgium. They will be split between the Fedasil centres, the Red Cross and several NGOs and accomodation offered by CPAS (which provides welfare support in Belgium).
