The operators of the Signal de Botrange and the Signal de la Baraque Michel ski centres have announced through the Agence du Tourisme de l’Est (the tourism agency for Eastern Belgium) that they are now open. A 20 cm layer of snow is providing excellent skiing conditions over slopes which are off the beaten track, adds Alexandre Fechir, who manages the Signal de Botrange ski centre. Significant snowfalls which occurred during Thursday night have made it possible to open the first ski centres for this winter season (2015-2016). There is currently a 20 cm layer of powdery snow, which is expected to be added to over the next few hours, owing to fresh snowfall in the Ardennes.
This current layer makes good skiing possible and “falling temperatures which are predicted for the next few days will allow the centre to be open for at least a week.” It is too early to comment on the weekend of January 23rd and 24th,” Alexandre Fechir stresses. Other ski centres are expected to be open during the next few hours in both the Luxembourg and Liège provinces, in particular at Ovifat, from Saturday morning onwards.
