BNP Paribas pays 296 million euros dividend to Belgian state

The French bank BNP Paribas, part-owned by the Belgian state, has distributed a shareholder dividend of 2.31 euros per share.
Of specific interest is the fact that the state has had the honour of receiving 296.3 million euros. The newspaper De Tijd says that this is the highest dividend since the financial crisis. Last year the French bank paid a dividend of 1.5 euros per share.

The French bank BNP Paribas, the parent company of BNP Paribas Fortis, recorded a net profit of 6.7 billion euros for 2015. This came a year after it was hit hard by a substantial fine in the USA.
