Immigration Office will be equipped with so-called radicalism “cell”

A so-called coordination “radicalism” cell will be implemented within the Immigration Office.
It will bring together a team of five individuals entrusted with the mission of monitoring the screening of individual asylum seekers, the Sudpresse newspaper group states on Wednesday.

These five civil servants will also be responsible for optimisation of information exchange related to radicalised individuals even “preachers of hate, which is very important for decision-making regarding them,” commented the Secretary of State for Asylum and Immigration, Theo Francken (of the New Flemish Alliance). “There are signs of radicalisation in certain closed reception centres but such behaviour remains exceptional. Nevertheless, we must keep an eye on this.”

The “cell” will also pilot a radicalist task force within the Immigration Department and and it will be a point of contact both with the security services and OCAM (L’Organe de Coordination pour l’Analyse de la Menace - which analyses security threats).
