Ten arrests were made on Tuesday morning in Molenbeek, Koekelberg, Schaerbeek and Etterbeek in Brussels region, following the request of an investigative judge specializing in terrorism affairs. The file relates to an investigation of a network that has been recruiting people to the Islamic State. They have brought many people to Syria to join IS, indicated on Tuesday the federal prosecutor. It is not related to the attacks in Paris.
The ten individuals have been taken in for custody and will be interrogated by anti-terrorist police in Liege. The investigating judge will decide if they need to remain in custody over the course of the day.
Several objects were seized during the raids, notably devices containing information and mobile phones which are all under investigation. For the interest of the investigation, the federal prosecutor does not wish to disclose further information on the arrested individuals.
