Belgian man placed under arrest for being part of a terrorist group

Anas H., 28 years old, has been placed under arrest and found guilty for being a member of a terrorist group, indicated on Thursday the federal court, confirming earlier information released by “La Dernier Heure” newspaper. According to the Belgian daily, the suspect had been trying to travel to Syria many times in 2014 and 2015 to join an Islamic State brigade.

Anas H., a Belgian-Moroccan living in Molenbeek, tried to join a brigade called Kativa Al-Battar de Daech, of which also Abdelhamid Abaaoud and Mehdi Nemmouche belonged to.

The man denies the allegations he is accused of and assures that he did not travel further than to the Syrian border.

Searches in his apartment conclude nevertheless that he had indeed been inside Syria in 2014 and 2015.
