Some €330 must be found to balance Flemish government's books

The Flemish government must find some 300 million euros to balance the 2016 budget. Without doing so, the deficit which it was hoping to restrict to 176 million euros will rocket up to nearly half a billion euros, Het Laatste Nieuws and De Morgen both report on Friday.

Besides the issue of finding the 330 million, all parties have drawn up their priorities in a frantic attempt to obtain additional funding. Both education and health are screaming out as having the greatest need. Furthermore, Geert Bourgeois's government also hopes to finalise the budget for two other specific areas - family allowances and secondary education - both before the Easter holidays.
