Train operation both to and from Brussels Airport will resume today (Friday) from 2 p.m. (CET).
So indicated the SNCB (Belgium's national railway provider) in a communiqué rolled out on Thursday evening.
Since the March 22nd attacks, the main station has remained out of operation. There is no damage to the station itself but, as it leads into the airport building, the station remains inaccessible for the moment.
The SNCB Brussels Airport Company together with the security services and Infrabel (which manages the country's railway infrastructure), decided to bring the old station back into service.
Passengers will be able to gain access to the old station via the current platforms. Ticket offices within the old station will not be open, but to make up for this, ten ticket vending machines have been installed. As in all of the other major stations, SNCB staff will be available on the station premises to help passengers if required.
The two links Ostend-Courtrai-Brussels Airport and Bruges-Brussels Airport will be restricted to going as far the Schaerbeek municipality until Friday evening. From Saturday morning these routes will, once again serve the airport.
