Some 200 prisoners receive one week’s extra prison leave

About 200 prisoners are being granted one week’s additional prison leave as a result of the strike by prison staff, the VRT reported on Friday. Some detainees had already seen their prison leave increased from the usual 36 hours to two weeks in late May, in a move aimed at offsetting the effects of the ongoing strike by French-speaking warders.

With the work stoppage continuing in some penitentiaries, the roughly 200 prisoners were given the extra week under certain conditions.
