Twelve people arrested in Belgium for suspicions to prepare terrorist attacks

Twelve people were arrested in Belgium on Friday night. They were taking in for further interogation for charges that they were preparing terrorist attacks.

The federal prosecutor has confirmed the arrests to Belga news agency.

About 40 raids were carried out over Belgian territory on Friday night. Most of the raids were taking place in Brussels as part of a large anti terrorist operation.

The persons arrested are suspected of taking part in a terrorist ring. The German newspaper Focus indicates that plans were to attack during Belgium's Euro football game against Ireland on Saturday. 

In addition, over 150 garages have been searched by police but no arms or explosives have been found.
