The Council Chamber of Brussels ordered Thursday to keep under arrest Nacer Bendrer (26) for a supplementary duration of one month in the sphere of the investigation opened following the attack on the Jewish Museum of Brussels. Mehdi Nemmouche is the other suspect incarcerated in relation to this case.
The attack on the Jewish Museum occurred on May 24th, 2014 and claimed the lives of four persons.
Mehdi Nemmouche, the first suspect identified in this case, was arrested in Marseille on May 30th, one week after the occurrence. He was at the time in possession of weapons similar to those employed in the attack, ammunition and a flag of the Islamic State, as well as a video of a man off-screen claiming to be the author of the attack in Brussels, while filming his weapons and clothing. To date, Mehdi Nemmouche has not made any declarations to the Belgian investigators.
Nacer Bendrer, the second suspect in this case, was arrested in Marseille at the beginning of the month of December 2014. He had shared a prison cell with Mehdi Nemmouche and the two men were in close contact a few weeks prior to the attack. While denying any involvement in the occurrence, he however remains incarcerated.
A wanted person’s notice for the third potential suspect was issued in mid-January 2015. The man was filmed a few days following the attack, in the company of Mehdi Nemmouche near the Bruxelles-Nord station, and has not yet been identified.
