Around half of Flemish entrepreneurs are in favour of a kilometre tax on the general public. This is on condition it reduces traffic jams and the economic losses they cause, according to a poll by Unizo. De Zondag reported on the story.

“Belgium is one of the European countries most affected by traffic jams”, says Unizo. “There is a considerable impact on businesses. The worse they are, the worse the economic damage is. It makes sense that entrepreneurs would support a kilometre tax on private vehicles, if it could solve or reduce the problem”.

Unizo is not calling for this tax to be put in place, but is asking for a pilot project that would measure the economic impact if one was set up.
