Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella (Socialist Party, part of Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament) is somewhat uneasy about the conditions of use imposed by Tinder and other mobile applications.
He says these flout European law.
“The recycling of user data and photos, even after account deactivation, poses a problem.” The MEP stresses this requesting that an investigation be started into these applications.
“More generally, we are also requesting that the Commission tracks down all businesses instigating grossly unfair terms in mobile applications, heavily sanctioning any culprits. The European consumer should be able to choose what information to share with third parties. However, he is still, all too often, the victim of a lack of transparency masterminded by unscrupulous businesses,” Mr Tarabella added.
Of relevance to this last point, there is also Runkeeper, a mobile application which makes it possible record jogging performance, which may collect and send user's data without their knowledge, even when it is inactive, as well as Happn, a geolocation application.
