Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to flock to the seaside over the long weekend, the West Flanders Tourism Office, Westtoer, announced on Friday. “The coast is expecting daily arrivals of about 400,000 from Saturday to Monday,” Westtoer Director Franky De Block said.

Long weekends are particularly important for coastal holiday destinations. After two good weekends – Pentecost and the national holiday – Westtoer expects the last extended weekend for summer to be another success.

Hotels are also looking forward to high occupancy rates. “With the reservations that have already been made, the hotels are reaching a rate of 85%. The large number of last-minute reservations should raise occupancy to 95% or higher,” Andre Descheemaeker, president of the ASBL Kusthotels association, points out.

The coastal areas expect the tourists to return the next weekend, too, since good weather has been forecast, while events like the Paulusfeesten in Ostende, WeCanDance in Zeebrugge and the Afro C Festival in Bredene are also likely to keep the visitors coming.
