The driver had fled the scene of the accident
The Limburg Public Prosecutor’s Office stated on Sunday (21 August) that a warrant for the arrest of the suspect concerned, who is aged 30, has been issued.

The man was charged with a number of assault and battery and hit-and-run offences, as well as culpable abstention.

The accident took place in the night of Friday to Saturday around 12.30 p.m in Hasselt. The thirty-year-old lost control at the wheel and hit two pedestrians with his car. They were, in fact, participants in the Pukkelpop festival.

A third party managed to avoid the vehicle by the skin of his teeth.

One of the two victims was able to leave hospital quickly. The other, who is seriously injured, remains in hospital. As indicated, the driver had fled the scene of the accident.

A piece of the damaged vehicle was found at the scene. The suspect was identified from witness evidence.

His vehicle was seized as part of the investigation. The man potentially faces the prospect of a two-year prison sentence.
