Airport security: Wallonia government still awaits hearing from federal government
The government of Wallonia still awaits a final response on airport security from the federal government in Brussels.

Five months after the attacks which affected Brussels Airport in Zaventem, Wallonia still await the view of federal government concerning strengthening airport security at Charleroi and Liège. The Walloon Minister with responsibility for airports states this in Le Soir today (Monday). René Collin of the CdH (Humanist Democratic Centre party notes, “Post the attacks, the region very quickly made a budget adjustment of 14.7 minllion euros (2.4 million in operating costs and 12.3 million in investments).”

He goes on, “Both airports presented their initiatives to strengthen airport security, already approved by the Walloon government for approval by the Interior Ministry.”

He says, “Since doing so, there has been no confirmation from the federal government.”

“In May, I wrote to the Minister for the Interior, Jan Jambon to request access to the European budget ISF Borders (which covers security and border controls in Belgium), and also to the Federal Government Resources Fund,” pursues René Collin.

He concludes, “On 20 July, he asked us to await new guidelines from the National Security Council, which were going to be presented to regional airports. These measures have not yet been presented either to me or to the two regional airports.”
