Belgian government wishes to extend scope of screenings

The government intends to intensify worker screenings undertaking either sensitive or working on sensitive premises), De Tijd  reports today (Friday). Staff within telecommunication networks as well as public transport could also be targeted for such screenings.

The law relating to security certificates should be extended to achieve this, confirms the spokesman of the FPS Foreign Affairs.

This document is obtained, in Belgium, after a sucessful screening of police databases and those of the state security services.

Risk and impact analysis currently takes place as a means to determine in which jobs such checks are necessary. Thousands of individual job functions may be affected.

The FPS, which grants certificates, and the National Safety Authority will both receive an additional budget intends to engage staff and improve I.T. Relevant changes to the legislation will be enacted before the end of the year.
