Islamist infiltration of intelligence services perfectly possible
Islamist infiltration of intelligence services is an ever present threat.

Islamist infiltration of intelligence services by radical Islamists is perfectly possible. This from the Islam specialist, the Police Commissioner of the Anti-terrorist division of the Belgian Federal Police, Alain Grignard.
He said, “The idea appears to centre around so-called fictional infiltration by such people, which is not without foundation as a potential reality.” He indicated this to the investigative parliamentary commission on the Brussels attacks.

The University of Liège professor was questioned by Laurette Onkelinx (of the PS).

This particular proposition has been circulating ever since the intelligence services have been trying to gather profiles of the Muslim community.

Ms Onkelinx questioned the paradox around opposing the lack of expenditure on establishing Muslim community profiles and the current fiction surrounding possible actual infiltration.

Grignard criticised delays by the Belgium security services in the field, whilst he himself was the top expert able to read Arabic even as far back as the end of the ‘80s.

He called for both investment in the police services and even the intelligence services.
