The Germany company, Deutsche Bahn, is contemplating halting operation of high-speed ICE lines to Belgium.
Le Soir is reporting this today (Friday).
The German rail operator thus intends to react to the bringing into force of the “Passenger Name Record” (PNR). The Belgian government wants to adopt this during the next few months.
The Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) recently wrote to the Prime Minister and the Minister for Transport, expressing concern over the Belgian willingness to include the railways in its bill on PNR.
Companies fear that the train will prove less attractive, in particular due to the difficulty of selling last-minute tickets through having to send data to the Belgian authorities.
The European directive on PNR only concerns air transport, so including trains is a bridge too far.
