60 jobs threatened at Estée Lauder's Westerlo site

The management of the cosmetics business at Estée Lauder's Oevel site (Westerlo), announced job losses yesterday (Monday). This came at an extraordinary works council and involves 60 job losses, owing to relocation to Switzerland. This is reported today (Tuesday) in Het Laatste Nieuws.

Twenty general staff, 34 executives and six managerial posts are currently under fire.

The decision was taken, according to the union representative Stan Hens (of BBTK/Setca representing the interests of office staff and manufacturing workers in Brussels Halle Vilvoorde), at the head office in New York.

The management made known yesterday (Monday) that employees losing their jobs in Belgium have the possibility to move to Switzerland. The unions consider this an unrealistic proposal.

Discussions as to a social plan should begin on October 24th.

The Estée Lauder site in Oevel, where nobody was available for a reaction this morning, employs 900 workers in total, or 372 office staff and 528 workers in product manufacturing.
