Family allowances: “The basic amount will be increased more in Wallonia than in the German-speaking community”
The basic amount for family allowances will be more than in the German-speaking community.

The basic amount for future family allowances in force in Wallonia will be increased more than the 151 euros decided last month by the German-speaking government. The President of the cdH (Humanist Democratic Centre party), Benoît Lutgen, has said.

Lutgen, from Bastogne guaranteed, “This will be higher than in the German-speaking community.”

He was questioned upon the subject during the current affairs broadcast Jeudi en Prime (on RTBF), which he was invited to speak on.

Mr Lutgen however refused to quote a precise amount.

“This will within the 160 euros bracket (as has been decided for Flanders, editor's note),” he said.

The leader of the centrist party said that this reform of family allowances, which should theoretically come into force on January 1st, 2019, is not for the purpose of making savings.

“It is not a question of withdrawing a single euro from the family allowance budget. Under the cdH, it will indeed be more or at the same level” from a budgetary point of view, he drummed out.

He also repeated that the reform would not apply to unborn children. Existing families will retain the benefit of the current regime.
