Kazakhgate - De Tijd also says Belgium’s Princess Lea could be involved

After Le Soir at the beginning of the month, De Tijd also spoke about Princess Lea’s possible involvement in Kazakhgate. Lea is the sister of King Albert.

On Friday, Le Vif published a letter that implicates Belgian Ministers at the time: Stefaan De Clerck , Didier Reynders and Steven Vanackere. De Tijd spoke of other revelations about Kazakhgate on Saturday, some of which had appeared in Le Soir at the start of the month.

These concern a mysterious transaction by Patokh Chodiev’s lawyer, Catherine Degoul. Money was put in Prince and Princess Alexandre’s fund for Princess Lea, who is the sister of Albert II.

During the first hearing last year, the lawyer said the transaction was requested by Armand De Decker. “He asked me to ‘perform a gesture, a favour’ towards the King’s sister”.

Court documents seen by De Tijd say Princess Lea will be questioned again this year. She has confirmed the 2012 transaction, but said she had never heard of Catherine Degoul.

Armand De Decker will be questioned about Kazakhgate on Monday.
