Since the beginning of the “Vigilant Guardian” operation in January 2015, nineteen accusations were made by citizens against military troops on streets for avoiding terrorist acts. However, none of these military staff have been disciplined, according to the Minister of Defence, Steven Vandeput.

“These complaints are basically related to the presence and image of troops, but also to their deployment of material,” stated the minister in response to a written question made in Parliament by Deputy Kattrin Jadin (MR).

Of the 19 objections, only two were related to discipline, “but (they) did not result in any punishment,” said Mr. Vandeput.

The minister has not excluded the possibility of other complaints having been presented directly to Committee P (in charge of the proper operation of police services). In any case, the committee has not informed military authorities regarding the matter, added the minister.
