The inhabitants in the capital must change their habits regarding rubbish collection, from this coming January 2nd, a date fixed for reform of the system. These reforms aim at simplification. The Brussels Secretary of State responsible for Public Hygiene and the Management of the Brussels Agency for Public Hygiene, Fadila Laanan (of the PS), announced this yesterday (Thursday).

Evening collections organised across a number of the regions roads will be removed. Unlike an initial option studied and challenged before being launched, white sacks will always be collected twice a week and yellow once a week.

The collection of orange sacks for organic rubbish will be mainstreamed across the territory but will not be compulsory for individuals. Collection of such sacks will take place at the same time as that for green bags (green waste).

The reform put forward on Thursday is the result of a project which has been two years in the pipeline.
