The Mediahuis press publications are reporting today that nearly 9,000 Belgians demanded compensation this year, for either flights that were three hours late or luggage that did not arrive at its destination. Compensation claims made to airlines amounted to €1.5 million this year. Data from Claim It, a company which champions the rights of passengers, confirms this.
Since 2013, compensation has been able to be claimed for a delay of more than three hours. The number of claims has increased significantly.
Ralph Pais of Claim It says, “This year we have been to help some 9,000 Belgians. Last year, only a total of 7,500 people were assisted.” He goes on, “The compensation system works in such a way that the longer the flight, the higher the totals recovered. Compensation can go up to some €600.”
