Belgium's five largest employers to fill 6,000 positions in 2017
Job creation set to accelerate at Belgium's five largest employers.

The five largest employers in Belgium between them anticipate filling some 6,000 posts in 2017. This has been calculated by the newspapers Het Nieuwsblad and De Standaard and published today (Wednesday).

The Colruyt Group thus anticipates recruiting 3,000 workers.

Indeed bpost (which is seeking drivers and mail sorters), Proximus (Big Data specialists and information security), BNP Paribas Fortis and the Colruyt Group anticipate recruiting 4,000 workers between the four of them.

SNCB and Infrabel are, taken together, likely to hire between 1,800 and 2,200 individuals by the end of 2017. HR Rail announced this at the beginning of December.

These jobs will, in particular, comprise 400 drivers and 100 attendant personnel, but also engineers and computer programmers.

The HR Rail Director, Michel Bovy, says, “This recruitment is necessary to compensate for natural wastage.” Overall, it is anticipated that the railway infrastructure will operate with lower personnel numbers by 2020.

At bpost, Proximus and BNP Paribas Fortis, the number of workers overall is also declining, despite the recruitment drive announced. It is only at the Colruyt Group where net employment is increasing.

Throughout the year 2015-2016, the mass distribution company has recruited 3,000 staff. This has translated as net job creation of 1,500 jobs. This pace looks set to continue into 2017.
