Belgians consumed less electricity in 2016

Electricity consumption in Belgium amounted to about 85.7 million megawatts per hour (MWh), according to estimates by Elia, the company that manages the country’s electricity network. In 2015 and 2014, Belgians consumed 86.9 million MWh and 88.3 million MWh. Elia attributes the decrease to improved energy efficiency or changing economic activity. Industry accounts for about two-thirds of the electricity used in the country.
