The Minister’s council has allowed the Mobility Minister François Bellot (MR) to borrow 1 billion euros for the Belgian railway, under some conditions. But it “shouldn’t be confused with the 1.05 billion needed to complete the RER”, the Minister said during an interview with Le Soir on Saturday.
“Some of the billion borrowed will finance the RER. It will be given to the most important projects the regions have submitted to the Investment Cellule””, Mr Bellot explained.
“There are 233 million euros for Wallonia, 61 million for construction work in Flanders and 344 million for Brussels and transregional projects” the Minister added.
He admits that questions about the finance technique “have not been sorted yet” and one of the four scenarios will be chosen in a few days.
