Belgian imprisoned in Italy after attack on train

A Belgian citizen violently attacked two ticket collectors, in a train linking Turin to Verona. This was reported today by SudPresse, as well as the Italian newspaper Verona Sera. The man, aged 29, is currently imprisoned in Montorio, within the province of Verona.

The incident took place last Saturday, when one of the ticket collectors requested to see the Belgian's ticket. The man verbally attacked the ticket collector before hitting him. He then got out a knife, whilst another ticket collector tried to assist his colleague. The man stole the first ticket collector's mobile and electronic ticket machine.

The two ticket collectors succeeded in isolating and confining the attacker in a carriage. The man tried to escape by activating the emergency brake, but was arrested by the transport police.
