The amount donated to good causes in Belgium has remained stable over the last few years, according to the Finance SPF. The total sum of deductible donations was 208.3 million euros in 2014 and 209.8 million euros in 2015. That’s a slight 0.7% increase. 726,000 taxpayers declared donations, a 0.3% drop (728,000 in 2014).
There was renewed interest in the system in 2014: the number of generous taxpayers rose by 12.8% compared to 2013, when there were 645,000 donators. The amount donated also increased by 20.7% (170.6 million euros in 2013).
Anyone who donates at least 40 euros a year to a recognised organisation can claim back 45% of the donation via a tax rebate. Donators claimed back a total of 94.4 million euros in 2015.
