More than 130,000 signatures for the final closure of the Tielt slaughterhouse

The animal rights petition for the final closure of Tielt slaughterhouses has already gathered more than 130,000 signatures, said the animal rights organisation Monday. The establishment is temporarily closed by order of the Flemish Minister for Animal Welfare, Ben Weyts.

Animal Rights launched the petition on Thursday after the images were filmed on a camera hidden in the slaughterhouse. These show how employees mistreat pigs before and during slaughter.

The organisation intends to hand over its petition to the minister in the coming days. It will organise a silent protest in front of the slaughterhouse on Monday 3 April to demand its definitive closure.
