French presidential election: French citizens living in Belgium voted overwhelmingly for Macron
A total of 44,911 French citizens living in Belgium went to the ballot box, in the second round of the French presidential elections (yesterday).

The French Consulate indicated today (Monday) that almost nine out of ten French citizens living in Belgium voted for the leader of En Marche !, Emmanuel Macron.

As is now common knowledge, he was elected President of France yesterday evening (Sunday).

Of those French citizens living in Belgium who chose to vote yesterday, some 88.5% voted for Emmanuel Macron. Le Pen scooped 11.5% of the votes of such French citizens.

There are some 80,000 French citizens eligible to vote living in Belgium. Of these, 44,911 went to the ballot box in the second round. This equates to a turnout of 54.5%.

In the first round, more than 46,000 French citizens living in Belgium had voted. On that occasion, 35.5% voted for Macron, and 7.3% for Marine Le Pen.

In total there were eleven polling stations open in Belgium during both rounds. Of these the largest, with the highest voter turnout, was the Brussels Expo venue.
