SNCB carries 130,000 coast-bound travellers during Ascension long weekend
The SNCB and the tourism industry have benefited from the volumes of people at the coast during Ascension weekend.

Some 130,000 people took the train to the coast between Thursday and Sunday. The SNCB, which laid more services on, is currently indicating this. More than 50 additional trains, compared to the normal service, ensured the connections to the coast.

With more than 92,500 passengers, Ostend leads the pack of most frequented train destinations, followed by Blankenberge (27,964 passengers).

In all, more than 1.5 million tourists took advantage of the lovely weather and the beaches. This figure comes from the West Flanders Tourist Office, known as Westtoer.

This influx of people in particular benefited hotels which recorded an occupancy rate of 95% during the four-day period.
