The Belgian co-production “Loveless”, with Russian Andrey Zvyagintsev, scooped the Jury Prize on Sunday. This occurred during the 70th Cannes Film Festival. It was announced by the jury during the closing ceremony.
Co-produced by the company Films du Fleuve, owned by the Dardenne brothers, Loveless (which translates as “Nelyubov” in Russian) tells the story of two parents who are immensely wrapped up in their divorce and preparing for their respective futures.
As a consequence, they have little interest in their son until, that is, he disappears.
Presided over by Pedro Almodóvar, the Cannes Film Festival jury comprised the American actor, Will Smith, the producer and actor French Agnès Jaoui and the Italian producer, Paolo Sorrentino.
The jury also included the German producer, Maren Aden, American actor Jessica Chastain, the South Korean producer Park Chan-wook, the French composer, Gabriel Yared, and the Chinese actor, Fan Bingbing.
