Terrorist threat: still 600,000 prepaid SIM cards unregistered
The deadline (June 7th) for registering your SIM card is fast approaching.

Of the 3.1 million prepaid SIM cards in circulation, 2.5 million have already been registered. This includes 400,000 over the last three weeks. The Minister for Telecommunication, Alexander De Croo (Open Vld), said this yesterday (Tuesday). The deadline has been set for June 7th. Users who have not been identified by then will have their card blocked. The obligation for all GSM holders to be identified is part of the fight against terrorism.

Prepaid card users can comply with the identification requirement now by contacting their provider in-store. It is also possible to identify yourself by reactivating the SIM card using a bank card, or online via your electronic identity card and PIN code.

All necessary information on the subject is available on the site identification-cartesprepayees.be.

In the event that a user’s SIM card is blocked, it may be reactivated after June 7th. Users reactivating their cards after this date will be able to retain their telephone number and their call credit.
