The Centre for Belgian Cybersecurity, for which the Prime Minister is responsible, has launched a major anti-phishing offensive. Phishing enables personal data to be fraudulently stolen through means of links in an e-mail. This is reported today (Wednesday) in L'Echo and De Tijd.
So as to counter this damaging practice, the government will collect all Internet addresses associated with links within fraudulent e-mails. A website has been built to this end. It will shortly be presented to various public services, banks, insurance companies, telecommunications operators, universities and indeed sector federations.
All links communicated by these organisations to the federal government via the central site will be scanned by a specialist company instructed by the government. Moreover if the link turns out to be dangerous, the authorities will ensure that accessing it via one of the four main Internet search engines (Safari, Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox) is impossible.
The central website has already registered more than 52,000 suspect links gathered by government cybersecurity experts.
