“11,000 reports have not been recorded in the police database”

Report data on a large number of people or vehicles that the police have flagged are still not in the database. Around 5,000 reports were waiting to be put into the database last Autumn. That has now increased to 11,000, VRT reported on Saturday. The figure comes from a report by the Commission looking into the Brussels attacks. Green MP Stefaan Van Hecke has requested that the backlog be caught up urgently.

When the police do a check, they need to find out whether the suspect is wanted for other offences and if their vehicle is stolen. The problem is that not all the people and vehicles that have been flagged are in the database yet.

Federal police don’t have enough staff to enter all these reports into the database. “It’s not good enough”, says Green MP Stefaan Van Hecke. He called on the police to take responsibility and make sure this was done urgently. He said the situation was a major security concern.
