“Antwerp is monitoring 557 people in the fight against radicalism”
The following are amongst De Wever's concerns; 189 people who are really dangerous, a further 60 people being closely monitored and 350 bordering upon involvement with the Salafi milieu.

Antwerp City Council is monitoring a total of around 557 people, as part of the fight against radicalism. This was indicated on Wednesday by Bart De Wever, the Mayor of Antwerp, during the broadcast Van Gils en Gasten (Van Gils and Guests) on the Flemish channel Eén.

Bart De Wever explained, “There are 189 people who are really dangerous. Of these, 67 people are in Syria, 16 people have returned to Antwerp from there, and 20 wish to leave Syria for Belgium. There are around a further 60 people whose movements we are closely monitoring.”

He went on, “There are also a group of 350 people who are bordering on involvement with the Salafi milieu. Therefore in Antwerp, we are actively monitoring 557 individuals.” From De Wever’s comments, the total figure he states as being monitored can only be approximate.
