The De Lijn strike is currently causing major inconvenience this morning across the entire network. The Flemish public transport company stresses, in a communiqué, “As it is still fairly early, the situation may yet change as the morning progresses.” The trade-union movement, here involving multiple trade unions, has called for a four-day strike from Friday morning. This is to protest against the collective bargaining agreement currently being discussed. The trade unions have asked all bus and tram drivers to not work for at least a day during this period.
The entire Flemish network is affected. No bus or tram is operating in the city of Antwerp. The remainder of the province is equally seriously affected, with between a third to a half of De Lijn vehicles operating. Traffic in East Flanders is also disrupted, especially in Ghent. Around 10% of drivers have reported for duty today in Flemish Brabant. The strike is also having an impact on Brussels.
Less than 10% of buses, and less than half of the trams to and from the coast, are operating in West Flanders. In Limburg the entire bus network is only running at 50% capacity. Passengers can get information on the website delijn.be.
