Too many cats are being born in Flanders, and their owners may therefore have to neuter them before the age of five months. The Flemish Council for Animal Welfare has stated this in an opinion. The Minister for Animal Welfare, Ben Weyts (New Flemish Alliance) is currently working on concrete proposals in this sphere.
The minister Ben Weyts approved the opinion of the Flemish Council for Animal Welfare, which he himself sought. He wishes to lodge concrete proposals with the Flemish government very soon.
The Brussels City-Capital region adopted compulsory neutering for domestic cats back in May. From January 1st, 2018, all cats over six months must be neutered.
This neutering obligation has also existed in Wallonia since March of this year.
