The first weekend of the electronic music festival Tomorrowland, in Boom (the Antwerp province), was a massive success. This was the view of the event organisers on Sunday. The event is being spread out over two weekends. On Sunday, a fireworks display was once again scheduled, to complete the desired magical and lively atmosphere. There were some 70,000 people present, whilst the young DJ Martin Garrix had the task of closing the day on the main stage.

Set up in 2005, the event in particular made one of the newspapers with the visit on Friday of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, this being National Day.

No major incident marred the first weekend of this 13th year. The organisers stated the illness suffered by the man taken to hospital on Saturday was not linked to any drug consumption.

Festival-goers got drenched by some significant showers, especially on Sunday.

The only other minor incidents occurred on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the police surprised 5 taxis trying to attract customers outside of the designated areas. In each case, their vehicle was confiscated until July 31st, after the last day of the festival. On Saturday, 12 taxis suffered the same fate.
