Wind gusts of up to 100 km/h expected on Tuesday night

Belgium will be divided into two on Tuesday afternoon, with dry weather and wide, clear skies in the west and more clouds along with some showers elsewhere. The showers will be more frequent in the Ardennes and along the Dutch border, according to forecasts from the Royal Meteorological Institute, IRM.Highs will vary between 14 and 18 degrees, with a WSW wind that will be fairly high inland and high by the sea.

There could still be occasional showers this evening, but generally the weather will be dry with clear skies. The skies will be covered tonight, starting with the coast, and a band of rainfall will move across the country from west to east. The temperature will be fairly cool, with lows between 9 and 12 degrees in the Ardennes, and between 13 and 15 degrees in the plains.

As the disturbance moves across the country, the wind in the southwest sector will pick up speed, becoming high as it moves inland and very high, even stormy, along the coast. Expect gusts of up to 80 km/h inland and even as high as 100 km/h at sea.

Wednesday morning will see very cloudy, covered skies, with periodic showers in the south and more localized rainfall in the north. The rain front will move eastward and leave the country. The weather will be dry for a time, then the chance of showers will increase in the afternoon, mainly in the southern half of the country. Highs will vary between 13 and 19 degrees.

The southwest wind will at first be strong inland and very strong by the sea, with more gusts that can exceed 80 km/h. The wind will then lessen and become moderate to quite high.

On Thursday morning, the undulating front will still hover over the south of the country, causing quite a bit of rain. In the north, the weather will be variable, alternating between showers and clear skies. In the afternoon, the rain front will shift southward and the entire country will experience some showers, but also sunny periods. In the northern part of the country, in particular, the showers could be accompanied by lightning in the afternoon.

Highs will be between 9 and 11 degrees in the Ardennes, between 14 and 15 degrees in the plains and about 16 degrees along the coast. The sector west wind will be moderate to fairly high, with peaks of 50 to 60 km/h.
