The temperature reached 25.7°C yesterday in Uccle. It has never been this hot so late in the year. The meteorologist, David Dehenauw, from the Royal Meteorological Institute indicated that the previous record, dating back to 1949 (22.4°C), has been smashed.
The all-time record for an October day has in fact not been beaten. Indeed on October 1st 2011, the temperature was 26.9°C.
There were also three other days of the tenth month of the year which turned out to be warmer than yesterday. These were October 6th, 1921 (26.2°C), October 9th, 1921 (26.1°C) and October 2nd, 2011 (25.9°).
The Royal Meteorological Institute’s records began in 1901.
