Bruno Dayez, Marc Dutroux’s lawyer, intends soon to request that external and independent psychiatrists be able to examine his client in the Nivelles prison where he is being held. His counsel wishes to assess the level of danger which the paedophile assassin, sentenced to life imprisonment in 2004, currently poses to the public.

Me Dayez says that he is not convinced that Marc Dutroux needs particular psychiatric care. He says, “With the passage of time, sometimes such people improve their behaviour.” He considers in this case that “time has served its purpose.”

However, the lawyer first wishes to consult experts so as to determine the level of danger posed by his client. “I am no fool…I am not going to request that he be allowed to run a garage or a sweet stall, or that he be a flower seller! I will not take ill-considered risks.”

Last July, Me Dayez made known his intention to present a reclassification plan for his client’s release by 2021.
