Catalonia crisis: arrival of Catalan separatists in court

Members of the dismissed Catalan government and the deputies are now to be heard in an investigation into insurgency. This relates to insurrection and resisting officers executing the law. The AFP (Agence France Presse) reported that these individuals arrived on Thursday in court in Madrid, without their leader Carles Puigdemont, who remains in Brussels.

Of some 14 members of the dismissed government summoned to appear, five were unaccounted for. In respect of all of these 14 members, the President of the Catalan government, Carles Puigdemont, speaking from Belgium, is denouncing a “political trial”.

The government number two, Oriol Junqueras, arrived first at the so-called “national audience”, followed by “ministers” surrounded by demonstrators who cried, “You are not alone” in Catalan.
