Belgian Fashion Awards: Dries van Noten and Raf Simons win awards
There were some well-deserved awards given out at the Belgian Fashion Awards 2017 last night.

The Fashion Designer Dries Van Noten received the Prix du Jury (“Jury Prize”) with Raf Simons being named “Designer of the Year” at the first Belgian Fashion Awards. The ceremony for this took place on Thursday evening at Antwerp.

The Prix du Jury rewards a designer for his entire career. The jury justified “When speaking of Belgian fashion, we immediately think of Dries Van Noten.” The jury itself was made up of Vif Weekend, Knack Weekend, Flanders DC (Flanders District of Creativity), and MAD-Brussels Fashion and Design Platform. “With his one hundredth Parisian Show and a book which goes back over his 100 shows without any element of nostalgia, 2017 has been an important year for the designer. His aura is international and his talent is definitely anchored in Antwerp.”

Raf Simons received the prize “Designer of the Year”. The jury indicated, “His work during the past year particularly appealed to the jury. He has once again put the Calvin Klein brand, of which he is the new Artistic Director, centre stage. At the same time, he continues to manage his own fashion label.”

The prize “Emerging Talent of the Year” was given to Façon Jacmin, and that of “Professional of the Year” to the make-up artist Inge Grognard. The prize for Entrepreneur of the Year went to the duo Anton Janssens and Raf Maes for their label Komono, and Public’s Prize to the lingerie brand Marie Jo.

Lastly, the “Most promising graduate”, the award for a recent graduate from one of the seven Belgian fashion schools went to Rushemy Botter, from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. The Belgian Fashion Awards took place as part of Fashion Talks, a biennial conference which brings together the world of fashion in Antwerp.
